Interno is a mobile application developed to help junior doctors improve their work practices and improve patient care and safety.
Interno allows secure and confidential electronic recording of patient-specific medical tasks and protects and improves patient confidentiality and anonymity by replacing hand-written notes containing patient details and identifiers by confidential anonymous coded electronic entries.
The app functions as a task-manager and the user chooses from a list of ‘medical jobs’. No individual patient data are entered at any point and the only free text entered is a unique and private patient identifier (6 characters only and 2 of these are numbers). Thus it is not possible to enter a patient’s name.
Uncompleted tasks can be transferred to the doctor taking over patient care at Handover (change of medical shift).
The app can also be used as a personal audit of workload i.e. number and type of tasks carried out on a daily basis.
The app is a daily diary ‘to do’ list similar to the popular i- phone diary but is specially designed for the busy junior hospital doctor.
